Again buddy, thank you! In the last pic, is the chain tensioner mechanically adjustable or is it spring located like the 4 cylinder Courier was back in 1971? Is Ford regressing or progressing? Me with 7 months till Ford's retirement plan kicks in. I better speak softly. Thank you very much for taking the time to help us all out in areas we don't often see. Hope I can return the help.

I did 1 year with ford. All I could take of being broke and pissed on day in and day out. Although I wish it would have been better. It was mainly poor managment where I worked that caused the problems. In my 1 year I seen 3-4 techs and 1 service manager leave.
I know ya meant Bill, but I had to throw my $.02 in there.

flate rate is a catch 20 deal.
Some days ya make alot, but its those day you set around with nothing going on that offset that and make it a bad thing.

Hated those days, but it did lead me into my 9 1/2 years with a division of Ford. Gained alot of experience, not much security, but thats life. I slept well, thank God Ford came along. With the security of a steady paycheck, 3 daughters have a college education.

Default Question for you guys

1999 F150 130K miles. Light sputtering in low Rpm's. Code read "Misfire on Cylinder 4". Took the plug out and it was covered in coolant. Usually a clear indicator of blown head gasket. My question, in the 1999's does the motor need to be pulled to get at it? What would be an average number of labor hours? Thanks in advance!

Pulling the head is not a big deal with the motor in the truck, its putting it back in that sucks. I think the head bolts are 10-12" long and you have to put the back one in the hole before putting the head on so the bolt is in the head but not in the way of lining it up on the block. If it was me I would pull the motor because I would want to see if the crank bearings were damaged by the coolant.

Decided to go out to the garage and measure the head bolts. I was a little off. Notice the pic with bolt sticking out of the head, not a lot of room under the body in the back.
