Default 300 inline 6

Hey guys, just wondering what everyone thinks I should do to my engine. Here's my thing, you know how people buy diesels that don't need them, they just like them? Well, I like torque, I don't need it, but I LIKE it lol. So my question is, what could I do to get massive torque, and hopefully get better gas mileage while I'm at it? This truck might also pull a dragster in the future, and I'd like to pull it with ease

I Think the 300 I6 is one of the best inline 6's to ever go into a truck. Having said this because of the dominance of V8's in the US not much work has ever been done to get the most power of engines like the many 6's made by Ford, Dodge, and GM. In Europe you can purchase inline, Boxer, V6's and W6's with well over 400 hp.
While until the last several years the only reason why a person in the US got a 6 cylinder was because a V8 was not available. The 300 I6 is capable of a lot of HP but only with a different head. I have mentioned the Austrailian cross Flow Head that is supposed to fit on a 300 I6. I have no idea what it takes to make one fit, I am sure it is not a simple bolt on replacement. So as much as I like the 4.9L I6 you are better off money wise just getting a V8 engine, at least with a V8 the parts are already out there to get reliable enormous horse power out of one.

Good post. Im a huge 300 fan, I own a 1989 Lariat 4x4 with one. I would say free up the exhaust (2x 3pipe headers, true dual exhaust), get a chip (jetchips makes them), and seriously consider a turbo or two (if you go for dual exhaust, get two small turbos). A turbo even at a few PSI (thats all you could run anyways without forging the internals) will give you huge torque improvements over stock. You will have to modify your spark timing and injection however to work better with the turbo(s), you probably just would get someone to tune it.

Put on an offenhauser intake for a two barrel and get a motorcraft two barrel. plus have the head shaved and port and polished and a decent cam will help alot. also rip the eecIV crap out if you got it cause it aint worth the time it took ford to make it.

You can buy individual turbochargers from places like Garrett. I would get a couple of quick spooling medium sized ones and run them from true duals out of 2x 3 pipe headers.
