I've owned a 11' 5.0, 13' 5.0, and 13' EB (current ride). I've towed 4500 lbs trailers and 7500 lbs trailers with both engines. If your max if 5K, I would not hesitate to go with the 5.0. On the other hand, 7500 on hills is when I am more than thankful I am now driving the EB.

One note... don't even argue fuel economy. They are both pretty close, but I found the 5.0 slightly better and that was with identical configuration trucks aside from the engine.

Default 5.0L vs. 3.5L EB

Well, I decided on my truck. I went with a 5.3L.

I went with a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

I really wanted the ecoboost in the F150, but these stories of shuddering scared me away. The new 5.3L in the Silverado has more power and better economy than the 5.0L Ford, so that is the direction I have gone. I wish Ford would have fixed the problems with the Ecoboost, I really wanted that truck, but didn't want to risk having problems.

Congrats on the new truck. Keep us updated how the new direct injected 5.3 treats you. Also, what gear ratio did you get with your truck?

What do you think of your 14? I had an 08 and was rather unimpressed. I am in the market for a new truck and I don't know a single person with a 14 GM. I do know a few people with fords however and they seem to think very highly of them. The 5.3 is a good motor from what I gather, I had one and was pretty pleased with the mileage. In all honesty, my next truck will be the companys but that won't stop me from driving it everywhere.

Default ECO vs 5.0 towing

I have towed with the 5.0, the TT 3.5, and the 6.2. Please don't be confused, they all have their good points, but the "V" block is not the best for towing. If towing all the time is what you are doing then an in-line engine is the best (with or without a turbo). The bad thing is that Ford does not have an in-line engine anymore in their 1/2 tons. If they would bring back the 300 with a turbo it would put all of the current engine options by Ford to shame. I currently have the 5.0 and I have had no problems with towing. I had a fully loaded 16' utility trailer loaded and the bed was full. (Appr. 4800 lbs). The gears never went below 5th while driving to OKC on 40 and then North on I-35. The EB was the same with the same load. I didn't count mileage as the wind changed dramatically from when I started both times.

OP- get what you like. plain and simple. like I said, all 3 have their points for consumers. All depends on what you want to do with the truck.

Same here.

Im about 3 months out from getting a new truck, & in all likley hood will not be a Ford.

No desire to play Russian Roulette with Ford or my $$

I do feel for whoever is going through the issues.
Few months ago my wife has a coworker who took her Eco in for the shudder issues etc...
Somehow they got her to trade it & guess what....same issues with her new one have popped up.

F that...

I was standing at my Ford service counter the other day and a fella came in with his Eco, complaining of loss of power during wet rides. That power loss has become entrenched now.

My heart sank... it was the first encounter I had witnessed of this problem, face to face. We talked for a bit. Ford in Canada does not want to acknowledge the problem.

I don't have it yet. I actually ordered it back in September (or thought I did). Then I got a call about 5 weeks later asking if I still wanted to order it.
Apparently the person I was dealing with didn't order it (but took my $1,000 deposit). Then that person left the company and someone else called me up asking if I wanted to order the truck. Anyway, it was ordered in October now and I hope to go pick it up around Christmas.

The new 5.3L is direct injected and has a pretty decent torque curve. Better torque and hp than the Ford 5.0L......

Hopefully it will be a good one and I hope they don't have any bugs in this new engine.
