2013 Ecoboost or 5.0L V8 ?

Another problem with primalurges' argument is that Ford is putting active shutter grill technology on a number of models now. It's standard equipment on the Focus. Some have ecoboost motors and some do not. http://www.ford.busseys.co.uk/Active...save_fuel.html No Ford conspiracy here! The ecoboost trucks are their flagship F-150 technology showcases. Hence the active grills.

If you're trying to counter my point of view you should try and do a better job of it. You're basically supporting my position that if it were driven solely by improving fuel efficiency it would be applied to all F150s like according to you Ford has done with the Focus. You see, we wouldn't be having this discussion if all F150s came equipped with the shutters like the Focus does. Thanks for the good laugh!

It is all about cost and volume. Somebody somewhere made a decision that the mpg improvement made it worthwhile on one model and not another. Were other factors taken into consideration besides mpg and epa mandates? Probably. Things like marketing. Remember, the Eco is the marketed engine and anything to bump the mpg there is worth more. And if it happens to fix a problem it is even better.

I found this website and post while searching the web for information to help with my decision buying an F150. I'm torn and confused on whether to buy the F150 Ecoboost or the 5.0L V8? And to make matters worse, which gears to pull my 21' 3200+ LB bassboat and still get good fuel mileage for everyday use.
I find a towing and spec chart showing all the engines, gears, tow ratings and cab models and what I don't understand is why the 3.5 L eco shows a greater tow rating than the 5.0L with the same gears?
Example: These are for the 145" WB supercab
3.5L eco 3.55 gear 15,400 GCWR 9700 towing
5.0 L 3.55 gear 13,500 GCWR 7,800 towing
I will tow to TN, SC, Canada and upper state NY once a year and the rest maybe a 150 mile radius from where I live in NE Pa. Yes there are mountains in Pa but nothing like thru VA and TN and SC.
Anything I could find on towing and gears the 3.73 were mentioned but always stating the item being towed was over 7,000+ LB's which is why I'm confused.
Thanks for looking!

I have read almost all of the pages on this post with the exception of where the subject got a bit off course.

Although theres no shortage of people on here who actually believe in what the EPA guesstimates are for fuel mileage. I always take at least 2-3 mpg off of the stated number to account for the real world driving.
Anywho...take each out and hook em up to a good sized weighted trailer and give it a go. Not enough people do this and probably should.

To the O.P. ...one more thing...take what you read on this forum with a grain of salt. There's no shortage of Negaholics on here and if you let them...they will try and suck you into their negative pit of hopeless unhappiness!
I don't know how many ecoboost engines there are out there but there surely are a lot more than members of this forum.
I'm willing to bet most of them are happy, just as most 5.0 and 6.2 folks are happy as well.
