Then my buddy bought one because he liked mine. Same year and model. No ticking sound on his. This sound is real embarrassing. Everyone always ask me what wrong with my truck. I have remote start and you can hear it across a parking 30ft away. I started searching the web. I found this thread and others. I noticed I am not the only one. I took mine back to the dealership again today. They compared it to another 2012 on the lot for trade. It had the same noise but louder. It has 47000 miles on it. My has 17000...
Reach out to me via PM, jnigro; I want to look into this. Be sure to include your full name, best daytime phone number, current mileage, VIN, and servicing dealership info.

I could not get my dealership to agree there was problem. They told me is was a normal noise. I asked them to dig in a little deeper by doing compression test or oil pressure test and they basically said there was no problem with my truck. Normal characteristics of vehicle. Did you contact Crystal the ford rep?

After your first service visit and you're told that this is "normal"....PLEASE reach out to Ford immediately. The dealer will turn you away every time if you don't. Helps keep everyone one honest.

Thanks for the reply. I have reached out to ford. My ford rep is trying to help but the dealer is telling her it normal. Since the dealer is saying it normal. They won't send out a ford field engineer. I talked to the service manager at the dealer and he that ford engineers are calling it normal. They use a stethoscope and they said the noise is coming from everywhere in the engine. I sent some video to the ford rep, but no word yet. I have posted a video on youtube. Here is the link.

Do you know what your engine code was on your bad engine? Here is mine. BA 340 BA P415A. ESSEX Engine plant.

I don't know what my engine code was. Hang in there, though...I know it sucks going through this. Couple of tips - Take it in when it's making the noise so someone can verify (if you've not done so already). Make an appt for it if it's still making the noise and have them give you written notice that they are refusing to fix it. Demand it. Take it to another dealer and try there. Lastly, take it to a reputable shop and ask them for a diagnosis (without giving them the story). Copy your Ford rep on everything you do. This is the kicker. Most states have a lemon law and there are some basic qualifiers, but once you feel you've done what you can, then send a certified letter to FORD (cc your rep) explaining the issue and what you have done to to date to have the problem fixed. Then demand "fix or replace". Fix it or initiate the buyback process. I have a letter I sent that got there attention...of course I was a stickler and I have no issues jumping into litigation. It's a pain in the ***, but It's what you have to do, and they're hoping it's more of a hassle than it's worth - and to some it may be....for me it wasn't. I hope this helps!

I have a 2012 STX with the 5.0 and it's been making the exact same noise. I bought the truck used with about 20k miles on it and noticed the knocking sound from the first week I had it. I had mentioned it when I took it in for the first oil change... I even showed the technician a couple videos of the noise on my phone... He agreed that it sounded terrible. However, they attempted to look into the matter AFTER they had changed the oil and could not replicate the noise. They were good to me. They gave me a loaner and attempted to replicate the noise for a couple days, but to no avail. After that oil change, I didn't hear the noise for quite a while. Now, at around 33k miles, I'm getting close to another oil change and I can hear the knocking sound again. I just wish it wasn't so dang intermittent! It sure makes it more difficult to show someone what you're talking about if it won't make the noise when they're standing there. I am planning on bringing it up again here in the next couple weeks when I take it back in for scheduled service. I sure hope they hear the noise and look into it like I feel they should.

Thank you to the OP for starting this thread. I've thought all along that the noise did not seem normal, and now I'm sure of it. It's especially bad when I'm going through a drive-thru and hear the noise off the adjacent walls!

TELL THEM TO DIAGNOSE BEFORE OIL CHANGE!!!! At 33K you're going to run out of warranty and they will nurse that all day long!
