Default 5.0 knock

Hi everyone, got the dreaded engine knock here too. I have an early 2011 SuperCrew with 85000 miles. I really love the truck except for the knock. Does ford every cover anything outside of warranty? My truck is well taken care and in like new condition. The knock is really scaring me as I cant afford an engine if it fails. If I knew it would make to 150000 miles I would feel a little better about it but I haven't seen anyone on here with high mileage yet. Anyone know of anyone that has the noise and have high mileage?

if it makes you feel any better my 2011 with 108000 miles makes the same noise on the number 4 cylinder. it starts about 5 minutes after a cold start and goes for about half an hour or until fully warmed up. very annoying.

A couple of our company trucks with the 5.0 knock like that and always have, the Chevy guys at work always say "who's at the door I hear knocking" to kiss me off haha but they all have well over 300,000 Kms and still drive well and we beat them pretty good....

Have you tried using 5w30 oil just for the hell of it, to see what happens?
It sometimes would help with that noisy 5.4.

Sorry guys I need to vent.. this morning I left my 2011 F 150 5 liter idling in front of my work. a coworker with a Chevy truck walks in and says is that your ford out there rattling? that's weird my chevy doesn't. nothing worse then that. this problem is embarrassing can't believe Ford did not recall this. the truck sounds like garbage and it's out of warranty. Its really hard to defend Ford when it sounds like a diesel. I'm about to get the powerstroke 6.7 badges for the sides as a joke.

I listened with a long pry bar all around the motor and it was coming from cylinder number four area. Loud metallic knock sound at idle. Sucks.

Default update

I mentioned in prior posts about my issue. It appears that the sound and frequency have increased. To recap, one dealer has already looked at it. Their conclusion was that the sound is inherent to the engine and that they did not want to tear into engine because they could not pin point the source of the knocking sound. Yesterday i fired up the truck and it was more noticeable than ever. Once the truck warmed it went away. I was wondering if anyone has tried a heavier oil? I am looking to try this route this weekend. I would hate to have to give up on this truck. However i dont want a ticking time bomb. Also truck is at 316xx miles.

Have you had your dealer take a look at this, lennylexi? They'll best be able to diagnose. Please let me know if you've been able to get an appointment scheduled; if not, use this to get started.

I understand how this would be frustrating! What's the current mileage on your truck, MC15083? I'll investigate this further.

I'm here to help, Rydaniels. What's the model year of your truck? It is always another option to visit another dealer for a second opinion. If interested, please let me know how things go; I'll keep an eye out for any more updates from you!

My 2013 f150 5.0l screw is going in tomorrow to get checked out by the dealer. The engine is knocking and I confirmed with a stethoscope that it is coming from the #4 cylinder. It has been doing it since 40000km.
