I mean the ticking is light...I can only hear it with my hood up on the F150. What do ya'll think?
Coyote=direct injection

I think eric70634 is correct. The injectors are a bit loud. If you notice, there are foam molds over the injector series. Ford knows there a bit loud and this was a modest fix, and for the most part works...but you can hear it when the hood is up.

The noise I had was NOT the injectors. It took a while for Ford to diagnose, but they finally did. I have some youtube videos that clearly exemplify the "knocking" noise. It sounds like a bad lifter..tick, tick, tick... In my case, the #4 cylinder was oblong, causing the piston to knock at certain position in the bore...I assume TDC...but who knows.

I have a 2012 Mustang 5.0 and it started doing exactly as the video showed after the dealer performed an oil change. Noise appeared at warmup at idle - very, very loud... Took to dealer and car has now been in shop for 2 weeks. The first attempt was to replace the lifters which didn't fix it - the 2nd attempt was to replace the tensioner parts (tsb) - that didn't work, they then decided they didn't like the oil pressure spiking when they rev the engine - now they are replacing the head (back ordered). The best part - the dealer doesn't provide a loaner car...

Normal noise - absolutely not - no Mechanical Engineer would ever design an engine to do this - and I just so Happen to be a Mechanical Engineer. I have been around the web enough the past few weeks to see that this is a known problem that typically results in an engine replacement. For whatever reason, it also appears to result after oil changes.

You are probably on to something, because they don't tick(knock) when we buy them. It's only after an oil change and around 5,000 miles it begins to get noisy.

My 2013 5.0 has the same knock, from under the truck, it sounds like the passenger side rear cylinder. Unreal. Did not start until after first oil change(at dealership but the way). Embarrassing and loud.....why are they not recalling and replacing motors with the build dates that have the oblong number 4 cylinder?

Default 2012 F-150 ticking noise

I have been having the same sound on my F-150 5.0. I bought my truck in 2012 with 2500 miles on it. I noticed the sound after the dealership changed the oil. I took it back to the dealer and had them fix the wipers and check the ticking sound on the passager side of engine. They said it was Normal sound. I believed them. Then my buddy bought one because he liked mine. Same year and model. No ticking sound on his. This sound is real embarrassing. Everyone always ask me what wrong with my truck. I have remote start and you can hear it across a parking 30ft away. I started searching the web. I found this thread and others. I noticed I am not the only one. I took mine back to the dealership again today. They compared it to another 2012 on the lot for trade. It had the same noise but louder. It has 47000 miles on it. My has 17000. I told them sounds like it will get worse. They told me I have plenty of warranty left so basically don't worry about. Lol. I explained to them what I saw on this web site and others. They told don't believe everything you see on these forums. I will be contacting ford in next couple of days. I hope they can help. I have owned many ford products and had great luck with them. Any advise would be Appreciative.

Here is the diagnoses and repair for my 2013 5.0. Started at 7,500 miles after the first oil change done at the dealership as a tick, and then got worse over the next 4,000 miles.
