I couldn't be happier with my 5.0, right now I'm showing 16.1 with about 90/10 city/hwy.I've taken it on one hwy trip 100 miles both ways and avg.19.2 at a lot of 70mph driving.I've just installed exhaust and love it that much more. Both of these engines are lights out IMO.It's like choosing between a "hot" blonde, brunette or red head ,you really can't go wrong.

If you like the turbo sound, torque and technology then the eco is a clear winner!! If you want a high technology V8 that gets great fuel mileage and sounds even better then get the 5.0!!

If you're looking for a mpg edge with the eco then stop cause its a lot closer than you think.
I get about 14/100 in city, on highway doing 110 its showing 11/12 per 100, different driving styles though, running the 5.0L here

I've had both engines and now I wish I hadn't selected the 2011 EB, the problem is getting FORD to fix the issue with the misfires/coil/water in the intake/ or just plain missing. When you pull to pass a semi AND YOU GET ABOUT HALF WAY INTO it when it falls on it's face, it's pretty scary. Been to the shop twice now, e-mails are a joke, they're aware of a problem, me too!
I'v talkedto some others having the same problem, some haven't seen it. Detroit, we have a problem.
Mileage still hasn't made it even close to the sticker, just 17.4 mpg, with a tailwind, taking it easy. With the boat on vacation it got 13 on the way up and 15 on the way back. 0n a 500 mile trip, so it was a pretty good gauge, being all interstate and on cruise, it didn't impress me.
In the rear seat, the road noise is louder than my last F150SC.

I'm Ford person still, but they need to get this service issue corrected. Nothing but FORDs at my house.

That's cool your a Ford guy. I am now but never owned one until now. That sucks that your Ecoboost has that problem....I have 20,000k on mine now with no problems and I absolutely love my truck. There's nothing more satisfying knowing I can kill most Chevs and Rams in a race at the lights. Go Ford. As for the Eco, a very small amount of them are having problems....I know it sucks but you won the lottery

Just an update, tomorrow will be one week of owning the truck, I spent about 200/300 KMs per day driving. I had the 5.4 in my XLT and I did love the engine, but the new 5.0 has better acceleration, passing cars, hitting the 140Km feels like Im doing 120 in the truck. Gas milage varies, on cruise on the highway im seeing 11/12 right now, within city its 13/14 (Litres per 100 KMs), my 5.4 did well on highway but did about 15/16 highway. Im finding better acceleration, slightly improved gas mileage, the sound literally had people compliment that it sounds like the truck belongs in a race.

Someone else I work with has the ecoboost thats a turbo (Dont flame me, I didnt get the whole story), and hes happy, his gas milage is similar to my own to. I can comment on the differences i notice between the 5.4 and 5.0 but I cannot personally comment on the ecoboost engines. Personally I always ask for a full V8 so the ecoboost wasnt even something I thought about

Last note, I smoke Chevs and Dodges which max 110, the six gear literally you slowly just put the dodge guys in the rear view mirror

I have a 2011 eb screw with 3:73s. I literally drove the truck for 1/4 mile before I turned around drove back to the dealer and bought it. Gas mileage isn't the best but what you gonna do. Go pay for that power some how.

Were you considering the 6.2 liter? That engine and the ecoboost are the more comparable two with the same tow ratings. Gas mileage is obviously better with the ecoboost in this case. Not sure why so many try to compare the ecoboost with other engines like the 5.0, 4.6, and 5.2 liter when talking gas mileage. Gas mileage should only be compared between engines of similar HP and torque as well as the area under those curves. A new standard of total power to MPG should be started, similar to weight/HP comparisons.

Default 2012 stx

Just bought a new STX on the 14th, 738 miles on it and I'm getting 20 mpg on the highway with the 5.0., dealer talked me out of the ECO said there was only a mile per galllon difference. I'm happy so far.

Just got a Lariat SCrew 4WD last weekend. 5.0 3.55 rear. It's fantastic! I know the EB is more powerful, but the 5.0 has plenty of power (360hp & supposedly 375hp with E85 fuel).

I got about 18.5 mpg average yesterday. And I stepped on it pretty hard at one point, but for the most part, it was light driving... mix of city and hwy.

And, i gotta say... as I guy coming from a V6, there's nothing sweeter than the perfect sound of a V8. .

I found out this morning that there is a Neutral limiter on the engine at 4000 rpm; and I think there's a cut off at 6000 when in gear. I had it up there for just a second and felt the engine cut power... but then I shifted before I could really see what was what. Then again, I should be rev'ing that high to begin with.

I didnt' try the EB on my test drive because I got a 2011 (new) and it was the only one on the lot... and the deal was too enticing for me to consider any other truck.

My first time owning a Ford. Was always a Chevy guy. That has changed now!

Really, for most purposes, you can't go wrong with either engine I have heard about slightly more ecoboost problems, and it's more expensive, but it's got more power. The 1mpg is negligible because that changes driver to driver. I get 19 combined in my v8, and Ive heard some guys get 15 combined in an ecoboost. Unless you need that extra power for drag racing or pulling a huge trailer(which most people don't actually do), the v8 is fine. Time will tell if the ecoboosts last, but ford just destroys Chevy gmc ram and yota in all aspects, with either motor...that's all that really matters, right?
