I had a 4.6L V8 and I now have a Ecoboost engine in my FX4 offroad. The best thing about the Ecoboost is the power. It's really fast and if you get the bully dog chip it has a awesome 475 torque and 410 horsepower. I haven't tried the new 5.0L V8 but I know it has less horsepower and way less torque. The gas mileage on the V8 isn't as good. I get 15L per 100km in town and 10L per 100km on the hi way. The only thing I miss about my old V8 is the sound. But I'm just gonna get a flowmaster exhaust kit and problem solved. The Eco still sounds nice but I like the sound of the V8.

But you gotta love the sound of the twin turbos on the Ecoboost and if you haven't seen the Ecoboost torture test you should check it out on U tube.

I have been building modular motors now since the mid 90's for a living. I have built everything from stock mod motors to 1200+hp mod motors...I own a current daily driver Mustang that makes over 600rwhp. I have recently had a lot of experience with the ecoboost motor and though I am a v8 guy through and through, I have to say that the ecoboost is a phenomenal engine. So much so that I just traded my 2008 Expy with a built 5.4 3v for a new ecoboost F150 and I have never been happier. The ecoboost reminds me of the old school Buick GN's...under estimated but a rock solid monster. I love the power of it and with how strong Ford made the bottom end on these motors, there is plenty of room to mod it and make a lot more power reliably. I could go on all day about the pros of the ecoboost. The 5.0 dohc is an awesome engine too, and I take nothing away from it, but if you want good daily fuel efficiency, massive down low power, phenomenal strength and reliability, the ecoboost is the way to go in a new F150 IMO.
Hope I helped,
Cheers!

Be sure to read up on the misfire and poor fuel economy threads for the ecoboost, though its a small percentage its out there and theres no immediate fix.

Some of the 5.0's have oil consumption issues as well. My 5.0 averages 13.8L/100K in the city with no problems what so ever.

If you like the turbo sound, torque and technology then the eco is a clear winner!! If you want a high technology V8 that gets great fuel mileage and sounds even better then get the 5.0!!

If you're looking for a mpg edge with the eco then stop cause its a lot closer than you think.

Every engine, no matter the size or manufacturer, will always have some owners out there that have a certain amount of issues. Some worse than others of course.
As for gas mileage, I am seeing an average of 16.4mpg with my ecoboost and I do mostly city driving too. Just sayin. I haven't had a chance to make a highway trip to see my highway gas mileage yet though.
I actually have a 600+hp Mach 1 mustang. I heavily built the 4.6 dohc in it. Driving it easy I see 17mpg around town and 30mpg highway. Its all in the tuning. Now if I lay my foot into the throttle, when I can keep the car straight, LOL, I can virtually watch the gas gauge move...LOL
Cheers!

I have herd that the 5.0 V8 gets close to the same fuel economy as the Eco in town. But on the hi way it's a bit more in the Eco's favor. I can get on average 10 to 12 L per 100 km. That's better than any guy I know with the new V8. As for performance...you can beat 5.7 hemi quite easily. I love my Eco and although it doesn't have that nice sound the V8 does, when I upgrade to a flowmaster exhaust system I don't think I'll miss my V8 any more. But I'm not trying to knock the 5.0 V8. That's the best V8 out there and if it wasn't for the Eco I'd probably pick it. I just think they should up the torque on them to at least 400.

Thanks guys, Im not super concerned with MPG or id be buying a llittle gas saver. but I want a truck, the eco boost caught my attention with the hp and torque. If it can have more power and better MPg then sweet. i would like to know if any eco owners have noticed any problems with the turbo? or any other problems..

No turbo problems at all, don't be concerned about that. An Eco with a tune will give you more than enough power!!
