2007 Ford 150 5.4L Engine Noise
I have a 2007 F150 4x4 5.4L with almost 11,000 miles on it. For the last few months, there has been some noise (almost grinding sounds) coming from under the hood. It usually starts within 10-15 minutes of driving. It will usually continue until I come to a complete stop. Once I stop, it sounds like something kicks in or engages. Everything seems to operate fine and no odd readings from the gauges. I took it to the shop and had them check the drive shaft, etc and they couldn't find any problems nor could they get it to produce the same noise (of course). The other day, my dad heard it briefly and said he thought it could be a fan? Now, I am in no way mechanically inclined, so I am reaching out to see if anyone else might be having this same type of problem. Thanks for your help/advice.

07 with 11k on it it needs to go to Ford. They need to drive it until they hear the noise. Be firm but polite stating what the noise is and when you hear it and how often. Let them know its not a figment of your imagination. If the truck needs to be driven farther than around the block explain that to them. Get a mileage reading before you give them the truck and if they try to give it back without repair and there is not" in your opinion, enough mileage added go back in and tell them how far to drive it.

A/C compressor
Not sure. How can I tell? I know it has done it before and I turned the a/c & heat off and it continued doing it? I can't remember though if it has started while the a/c is off. Any ideas?

I also have a 5.4 2007 4x4. The noise i was hearing was not at a high rate of speed but around 40 45 ks. It would sound like the trans was trying to engage and just before you came to a stop it would bang into what sounded like the trans going into gear. After 1 dealer could not find the problem i phoned the dealership i had leased it from and explained the problem. They got right back to me and had me try moving the 4x4 switch into 4 wheel and then right back to 2 wheel when the noise was heard again.I tried it and so far all ok.Don't know if this helps you or not.

But you shouldn't hear it when you're driving. Only time you can really hear it is when you're at a complete stop.
