Post 98 f150 4.2 v6 to Mark VIII DOHC

Well im new here so hope im doing this right. I've seen alot of threads of people starting this project but im yet to see one completed.
If there is one lead me to it please lol. I'd love to see it.
Im gathering up a few more supplies and planning to dig into it this weekend.
I'm a 20 year veteran A.S.E. mastertech.
planning on using the ecm that came with the motor only thing im in query about so far is bypassing the pats in the ecm but have read it can be bypassed with a flash.gonna try to squeeze a set of long tube headers for a 98 cobra in there just because im greedy and hunting for that extra 20-30 hp.
and using the trans thats on the dohc.
if im an idiot and missing the big picture due to tunnel vision please let me know.
and if your just looking for a good laugh dont tell me and wait for the pics and updates.
thanks in advance.

Smile Update

Well decided to take a little more time and go through the engine first, so how could i refuse a little powder coating, having the lower end balanced and well of course four pretty new procomp cams to help out the poor little 290 stock hp. no backing out now or my wife will kick my a@@ for the extra 4k Ive dropped in the recent weeks lol
heres a pic of the engine just set the tins on for the pic. the motor is actually back together now so ill get some new pics this week

Looks like a hell of a winter project. Just to be clear, you are yanking a 4.2 v6 and replacing with a dohc 5.4 from a lincoln right? Are you also using the lincoln trans? Good luck! I am sure it will be something special in the end.

should be a blast lol. Actually its the 4.6 dohc but yes i am using the Lincoln trans but only because of the planetary gears because other than that they are identical transmissions.
and Ive already made my engine wiring harness to just get that headache out of the way. which btw i might add was ridiculously simple. really can't understand what all that fuss was about. ya move 6 wires and add 9 the provisions are already there.

Default sorry bout the long brake between updates

Ok so to stand corrected both transmissions are 4r70w's but the 4.2 bell housing only has 2 bolt holes for the starter where the V8 of course requires a 3 bolt starter bolt configuration. but thank goodness just happen to have a v8 one rebuilt n laying around lol. Ok well enough of the bs here are some technical goodies to help out other people like myself that are crazy enough to attack this project. one absolutely awesome thing is that the engine mount for the passenger side is quite simply the stock 98 4.6/5.4 engine mount 2wd or 4wd makes no difference. but here is the super secret i found through much research and trial and error, the left side mount is a part number 2972 yes this is right no custom mount making crap necessary. and i assure you it is a perfect alignment. next you want the 97/98 Mark VIII/Cobra intake because of the throttle body location. you will have to relocate the air-box but not a big deal simply swap it with the washer fluid bottle. next I am using the engine harness from the Mark VIII and De-pinning the Mark VIII 104 pin ecu side of the harness to modify my factory ecu 104 pin so it will be a direct fit to a 98 f150 with a 5.4 ltr V8 computer as they were already equipped with a COP system and though not activated it does have the imrc provision which i plan to have activated with the custom tune but should be able to start and drive the vehicle as the 98 f150 was not PATS equipped. the heater hoses are a bit close to the firewall but with a little tweak there is more than enough clearance for heater hose modification. the best fit for manifolds are the stock manifolds off of a 2001 mustang cobra as the output locations are the exact same as the truck. only 2 slights drawbacks to them 1 the passenger side has a ob-longed flange so you will either have to get a small cut-off with the flange from a cobra or have a custom flange made. 2 no 02 sensor holes in the manifolds but any muffler shop can add 02 bungs to the top of your flange pipe. not quite done yet but plan to be driving within 3 days. and here are some pics. oh and a stock oil pan from a 98 f150 4.6 highly advised for starter access. 55 bucks at Orielly stock Mark VIII oil pick-up is a perfect fit.

im sure that anybody that has thought about this project has google searched relentlessly for pics of one of these engines actually fit into a 97-03 with no luck so if I'm right I proudly present the first.

Looks great man! I almost swapped in a DOHC 4.6 in place of the previously knocking 5.4 but I didn't want to loose the torque in a lifted 4x4. So I wussed out and rebuilt the 5.4 but bigger badder & stronger. I'll be following your post to see the final product and please post more pics!

Rhetorical question----why? lol. Awesome job. I like it when people do things to their trucks just because nobody else has done it. Nicely done.
