Default 2,3 or 4 valves?

2003 Expedition, 4.6L V8. How can I determine valve configuration without pulling the valve covers?

3v 4.6 motors came out in 05 in the stang as far as I know and will be in the 09 f150 which is suggested of putting out numbers close to the 5.4. The 4v has been out since the early 90s and is huge compared to the 2v motor. It came in the cobra, the mark viii and the aviator to nave a few.

Yup, its a 2-valver. There should be a tag on the airbox that says something like "4.6L 2V".
