Default 1983 4.9 liter 6 cyl need to get codes.

I have an 83 f 150, with a 4.9 liter straight 6 4x4.

Trying to figure out what computer I have and where it is located.

I'm pretty sure the motor has some issues, and need to know the procedure on how to read the codes from older computers.

thanks in advance.

There are no codes to pull off of a 1983 vehicle.

OBD1 wasn't mandated until 1988. Simple check? No CEL, no codes.

yeah, i was going to say, i know my truck has at least eec II or eec III.
So it should shoot codes.
I don't have any cel lights, but then again my instrument panel/guages have not worked in a while.
I have an ignition module on my drivers side fender, and on my passenger side fender, I have an electronic regulator.
Haven't checked my passenger side kick panel yet.

you should also have a diagnostic port on the driver side of the engine compartment you can pick up a reader at the auto parts store or use a volt meter look at a haynes repair manual it tells you

ok. I see two single plugs hanging loose. probably them. I have chiltons, it doesn't tell you squat.

EEC IV can't be worse than the older computers?
