You should be able to use any kind of anti-freeze. I wouldnt use orange dexcool tho. Just make sure when you do the change/flush all the antifreeze is out of the system.

Your owners manual specifies Motorcraft Gold and that's what you should use. That's what the engine and cooling system was designed to use and it's not like there's a huge price difference, especially when you take into account that the coolant is good for 100k miles. IMO just get the Ford coolant and you'll be safe.

Like austin97 said use the ford recommended gold coolant. If u truly wanna change the type of coolant u use then do a complete system flush first.

The coolant jug in my 08 looks rather nasty and I plan on doing a coolant flush when I get a chance. Ford uses a "gold" G-05 based coolant like my 05 Jeep Wrangler used and I had bad luck with that coolant in my Jeep!! It seems to break down faster and leave junk in the overflow tank just like what my 08 F150 is doing. On my Jeep I flushed it out to the normal green coolant found anywhere vs just a Ford/Jeep dealer and I never had another gunk issue and the green stuff is now good for 5 years or 150K. If you ever break down or have coolant problems later on it will be much easier to top off or find replacement coolant.

I think the only real problem with gold/green coolant is to make sure and do a complete flush and not to mix the two together at all.
