I recently purchased an 01 f150 4x4 with 166,000 miles on it. Fluid appears to have been changed. The night I bought the truck it test drove fine in town and in the country. I got home with the truck approx. an hour drive. Went to go for a drive later and it make a strange sound when I first took off. At the next stop it made this same sound and also slipped some. Now it slips and acts up until i get it up into higher gears. If I hit the gas hard it revs up as if it were a 5 speed and I pressed the clutch. Fluid does have a bit of a smell to it, but is full and nice and red. Will be calling the dealer I bought it from, but just wondered if this will be a new transmission type or problem or something I can fix if they wont take care of it.
