Default 4.6 3 valve runs like the old GM 327CI

I recently purchased a 2010 F 150 with the 4.6 liter 3 valve. My dad was asking me how it ran and the way I explained it to him is it runs like the old Chevy 327's did. not a whole lot of bottom end but they rev fast and make a lot of power on top. The 6 speed transmission mated with this engine makes it feel much larger than it is. I'm really happy with the performance and the mileage.

Yup. The 4.6-3V is a great little motor if you don't need to tow anything heavy. I owned an '09 SCab until just recently, put 90K trouble-free miles on it and it was the best riding truck and most enjoyable to drive that I've ever owned...and I've owned 7 since the 70s. I did tow a 16' TA box trailer both locally (short pulls) and out west to the mountains a couple of times. That put a lot of stress on the motor and dropped the MPG from the 16-17 range to 9-10 range, but it still performed flawlessly without overheating at 108* across Kansas in July! Never used much oil--although I did switch from the 5W-20 OEM reco to a 5W-30 synthetic after I passed the 60K mile mark--and the block and undercarriage was still dry as a popcorn fart at the end.
