Default U-Joint Problems

Alright guys so here is my problem nothing to do with install no dropped pins just not the right joint so i replaced my original u-joint and 2 days later it blows a retainer clip and cap (this is the joint at the rear diff) go to replace it again find out it dosnt quit fit (my brother installed the first one while i was at work so this created a problem to) anyways so after talking to a lot of parts stores and finally getting the right part number from ford it crossrefrences to a u-joint i have a persion 331. so after that not fitting and (by not fitting i mean one retainer clip falls in and the other is a few thousands of a inch from being able to get down far enough to drop in). we micrometerd it and found out from the retain clip grove to grove and the u-joint is 4mm to big. so ford claims they have the right one but can't provide the size ****ty i know has anyone had this issue 2000 f150 5.4l 4x4 ex cab

Default

4mm seems like an awful lot to be off. I've seen clips made in different thicknesses to make up for variations in manufacturing. I've also seen the ears get squeezed together a little when using a press on a u-joint with a stuck cap.
