Default Ticking noise (probably heard it a million times)

Have a 2005 5.4 167,000 miles and I have the typical ticking noise. Sounds like a diesal sometimes. Only does it at idle when warmed up. When you rev the engine there is no noise once so ever. No loss of power, no rough idle, no check engine light. Motor runs perfect. I've heard so many explanations on what it could be idk what to start replacing or if it needs to be fixed. I have a trip coming up to Atlanta to see family

Passenger side manifold would be my guess. I have the same problem and had that confirmed when they replaced my exhaust. Once the manifold and gasket warms up it seals the leak. Getting mine replaced in a couple weeks. The manifolds are known to warp on the passenger side.

That's a lot better than the cam phasers or timing components

As I found out last night, it could also be a loose spark plug. Yesterday they replaced my manifold and there was still a slight ticking sound. I assumed a valve or something. Nope. I was doing my plug change last night and two of the eight plugs I changed were loose enough that I took them out with no ratchet on the socket. A really cheap check is to pull the coils off the plugs and check to see if they have brown burnt oily spot on the boots. If so, change the cop and plug making sure to torque the plug to 33ft-lbs. there's tons of info on here about plug changes so I won't detail that. Anyway, torqued all mine down and zero ticking sound.

Alright I will give that a try as soon as I have the time. Is it possible that could cause an ejecting spark plug?

I would think so. Make sure they are torqued to 33ft-lbs.

Checked all the plugs and they are all tight and look like the previous owner just replaced them. Used a stethoscope and the noise is only on passenger side. It's louder underneath. I am running Mobil 1 high mileage 5w-20. No additives with a motor craft filter. Tomorrow I'm gonna change the oil with vavoline max life HM 10w-30
