Hey guys I have a question thats probably been seen 1000 tines over but I have a problem. My truck (1997 5.4l triton 195380mi) has a rough idle and vibration as I go down the road. My mpg has gone way down. I also have a p0401 code. Here's the weird part the truck will run fine every now and then but soon the shuttering and the rough idle starts back. Also it'll run rough but it'll clear up and surge for a second and go back to running rough. Any ideas things to check out or change?

EGR valve or DPEF sensor .. you can try cleaning the EGR and throttle body and check hoses

Look for vacuum leaks.

Thanks for the replys and turned out to be a coil replaced it runs fine but still have that code but till it causes a big problem I'm fine with it
