I just had this issue with my 04 5.4L Triton on Monday. I also had a lag in the gas pedal and it would read low oil pressure and then stall out on me. It would only stall if I was stopped at a light, in an intersection or in reverse backing into my driveway. The verdict was that the fuel filter was plugged (re the lag) and throttle body needed to be cleaned. After the throttle body was cleaned and the fuel filter was put back in it fixed that issue. I thought it could be the mass air flow sensor to begin with but its not so don't waste your time going there.

I hope this helps you out

Not sure what year your truck is, but if it's the 3v there is no egr valve.
