9qt of oil for an oil change?!!
So just got my oil changed, my local shop poured in 6qts and it wasn't enough. He put in 8qts and still wasn't enough. It took around almost 9qts to fill it up. My god... Is this normal? I'm pretty sure it's not as most of the threads i have seen has said that the manual says 7.7. Although I probably shouldn't have waited till my oil life said 20%.

I hate it when people say "I work for so&so" making it sound like what they have seen or heard is GOSPEL,
BUT,
I work the parts counter for a Ford dealer and charge out stuff for most of our oil changes in the shop. some Mustangs use more than 8 qts, but in the 3 years since the 5.0 hit the market I have NEVER EVER seen one that needs more than the listed 7.7 qts of oil.

Can he/she that did the work count?
Forget to put the plug in for the first bit?
Or some other explanation.
It is so easy to change your own oil, why not do it yourself.
Nobody is going to care about your trucks well being as much as you do! Plus while under there you get a chance to look around for other possible issues.
In my garage is a little book for every single thing i own to write down what was done and when.
Saves me wondering if i remembered to change the oil last year in the mower and gens. ...or was that last oil change and new air filter in the car at 30k kms or was it at 35k kms....hmmm
Grab the book for whatever it is i wonder about and look, and i know for sure.
Then you truly know what psi your tire pressures are to....right down to how clean is that cabin air filter.

Did they use off the shelf quarts or the machine that pumps by the quart from a tank? I had a friend whose shop's went out of whack and wasn't pumping what the computer said it was pumping. I wonder how many people got "extra" oil that day...

7.7 qts + half a qt for the filter + oil galleys etc......could be 8.5 + quarts OR
you have 2 or three 400 pound Sumo wrestlers sitting on the left seats and fender while you were checking the oil stick which was pushed in too far down.
Or maybe an oil pan hole?
