99 XLT bought in 02 and had 36K on it. When my very soon to be ex-wife took it in April of last year it had 164k on it. When it turned 110,000 I was driving home from work and it started bucking like crazy so I pulled the codes and it was misfiring on 3 cylinders. I pulled the plugs and the plug in the #4 cylinder was broken in 2 places and caused the signal to go to the cylinders next to it in the coil pack and misfire those cylinders. Replace the plugs and it ran like a champ. Flash forward to January of this year the ex-wife called to tell me the truck blew up and when I looked at it the oil pan was sitting on the frame. It has been sitting since then and I am going to go pick it up next Friday. I have a V6 from a 2000 ready to go into it that has approx 100K on it. I also own a 93 T-bird with a 3.8 V6 that has approximately 600K on it that I bought brand new. I know that I can get big miles out of a 4.2.

I am the 3rd owner of my truck. The first owner was a survey company in Ga. The second owner bought in 04 and paid 5600.00 for it then. It has over 240 K on it now and runs like new still, the air is by far the coldest air I have ever had in a vehicle and the trans was installed by the lot where I got it, there is a 18 month warrenty on it.

For the previous poster that asked about recalls: I had a 1999 4.2L xlt that completely burned after sitting for 10 hours. There was a recall pertaining to brake fluid leaking into the cruise control module I didn't take care of. If you choose to ignore the recall, please don't park in a garage or near your house. 364 days out of the year it would have burned my house down, it just so happened it was parked away from the house the night it burned.

My brother's 1999 4x4 MTX has 280k+/- on it... I just asked him to send me a pic for proof. Original engine/trans/diff/rear.

EDIT- I stand corrected. 312k miles is what it has... here's the pic.

Default Let's try the OTHER way..Extreme low miles on a 1998

I do vehicle inspections where I work. Last week an older gent brought in his 1998 gold extended cab stepside for a state inspection. This truck was the poster child for well kept/ immaculate. Looked like it was new, even under the hood, smelled new inside and showed only 8,480 miles on the odometer!! You read right....eight thousand four hundred eighty miles. Our shop had a file on his truck for the services we have done the few times he brought it in for service, so this is documented. It was a 4.2 automtaic, with a/c and a few other goodies.
