68,000 on my 2008. I fully expect to get 200,000 out of it. Best truck I've ever had.

186,xxx on my 2003 XL and it's still going strong! I'll probably get it rebuilt or put a new crate engine in at about 200-220, but I'll play it by ear.

I know this is an old thread, but it makes me feel a LOT better about my recent purchase of a 2007 4.2. I've always stayed away from v-6's, but from this thread, it sounds like I made the right move. Mine has 147,xxx miles on it and it looks like it was just used as a commuter vehicle. The PO took it to Ford to have all the service done, and it drives like it has 50,000 miles on it. I have a 6x12 trailer that will carry a ZTR mower and some small gear for about 50 miles per week. I live where it is flat, so it sounds like I will have no problem with this rig.

I don't have it anymore but my 99 XLT had the 4.2, Traded it in 2013.

It was a good engine for my needs, hauled the four wheeler in the bed as well as camping gear and four people well enough. It performed well on long highway trips.

At 214K it was in need of high dollar repair. There was oil dripping out the back somewhere, signs of coolant in the oil and gas milage was terrible. It was pretty well used up unless I wanted to put lots of $ into it. I was still rolling with the original clutch too.

But over those 214K miles I never really spent a dime on it. I don't regret the decision to buy it at all. 14 years and that many miles proved that.

Default 264,345 But

...about 6 weeks ago the chain on my 2001 / 4.2 / XLT gave up the ghost.
And w those kind of miles, I figured that just fixing the chain wouldn't make any $ense, so I splurged on a Jasper remanufactured engine.
However, within a week after the new engine was dropped I was having issues:
the truck was sputtering / backfiring / and had little to no acceleration.
The mechanics at the shopwere ofcourse in denial and seemed unwilling to accept the notion that this new engine was having problems.
So after changing spark plugs and 2 fuel injectors - they did a compression test followed by some other tests required by Jasper.
Well, the new engine had a bad #3 cylinder.Apparently the rings had been improperly assembled (?)
Another 4 days w/o my truck - but having a warranty (3yrs/100k miles) seems to have paid off .
2nd replacement engine in 5 weeks seems to be a keeper
So how many miles does my truck have - do I count original or new engine miles?

Default 2008 xl

A few months ago I bought a 2008 XL with 78k miles. Always been a Chevy guy, but I got a great deal. Just recently passed 3k miles and changed the oil with M1 plus K&N oil and air filter.

No problems so far. I expect to see 200k before it's all over.

I wish there were more XL threads. I'm tired of seeing all the posts about people spending more lifting or lowering than they did on the truck to begin with... But I guess I know where they're coming from. I just spend all my money on my Victory motorcycle, instead of my truck.
