Default 3.8 and 4.2 interchangeable parts

ive been doin some research lately and i found out that the 3.8l v6 and the 4.2l v6 are very similar (same block etc.). i was wondering what parts from the 3.8 would work just fine on a 4.2? i was wanting to get my truck a little bit quicker for the fun of it, but dont wanna do a complete motor swap

If you put the 3.8 intake manifolds on the truck, you can add the 3.8 super charger kit. Super Six Motorsports has the stroker kits to run you up to a 4.3. They also have in stock the CompCams camshafts that will get you a bit more power. They are made for the 3.8 but the only things that are actually different are the cranks (same block, same bore, different stroke). I believe the heads are the same with the only other difference being the intake manifolds. However, 3.8/4.2 parts aren't cheap. In the long run, and engine swap is almost cheaper.

This thread helped me alot. I have a 3.8L manifold sitting around. It will be nice to do a supercharger kit with that.

Yes. You can install a 4.2 crank and whatnot in a 3.8 and you’re set.
