When's the RIGHT time to change oil for you?

That's a lot and you work there. I get mine done at my dealer for $28.95, that includes tire rotation and fluids.
As far as changing it I wait until my monitor is under 10%.

An Oil Change is the Cheapest Maintenance you can do, just do it!
I have 900 kms on a new 2014 F150. I plan to change the oil every 4000 kms, not 8000 as recommended by dealer. Again an oil change is the cheapest thing you can do to maintain a vehicle. Dealers and manufacturers want you to keep buying new vehicles, hence them recommending such long periods between oil changes.

I change mine when the OLM tell me to do so. I paid for an oil analysis at my second oil change ( +- 14000 km on the oil ) and the report came back with the oil still in serviceable condition so..... why waisting ?

I do mine at 5k with whatever the cheapest full-syn oil is at the time that meets the ford spec. Typically that is quaker state ultimate durability at walmart, but recently got a killer deal on pennzoil platinum for like $9/5 qt jug on amazon.
I may start extending them though. After I installed my catch can the fuel smell coming from my oil has been reduced to almost zero so I think the fuel dilution issue is no longer a problem.

I change mine when the owners manual says when. for me thats every 7500 miles or once a year with the synthetic blend. i'm no longer getting the works package at the dealer because i'm now getting free tire rotations where i bought my new tires. i'll be changing the oil myself using full synthetic and sticking to the same schedule. a lot of you guys are old school with the 3k interval and i think your just wasting your money, but hey, its your money. my vehicles rack up 200-300k miles before i sell them still running good, using the owners manual for oil change intervals.

I plan on doing 5000 miles with my 2017 Explorer with the 3.5L EB engine. The manual may say 7500, but I've seen a few posts now where the dealers have tried to deny a warranty repair if you go too far past 5000 even though you stayed true to the OLM and the maximum interval specified in the manual. Plus, the EB engines are known to be harder on the oil than NA engines.

When the service light comes on at around 10k miles. I run full syn. I think the engineers have a lot time and testing done than my gut check local ford mechanic. If they say my oil is good for 10k, it's good for 10k.

This thread hurts my head. This is not your mom's Soccer van or old v8.
Really simple. Change it every 4k miles. These motors run hot. They are high-performance motors. Especially being a DI engine. Oil dilution is a big deal.
Oil is cheap. Change the oil every 4k and plugs every 10k miles.
