How good is the EcoBoost engine?
#11
I bought the first 2011 eb the local dealer had. Now have 45k miles and could not be happier. I tow a 30' travel trailer all over the country and it handles it perfectly. Gas mileage averages 11 mph towing. Mpg actually improves with altitude and power is always great.

Well... I guess I will be the oddball here. Had a 2010 5.4l and traded it for a 2013 EB back in Oct 2012. Drove it about 6000 miles before the CAC Moisture issue raised its head. Took it back to the dealer and they reflashed the computer and changed the CAC. Did not cure the problem..... Multiple trips back to the dealer and a couple more thousand miles......traded it for the exact truck but a 5.0l a few weeks ago. The EB is a beast when it runs right..... Mine did not like the humid South Louisiana weather I live in. Funny it waited until 6k before giving me any issues. Truck was also down on power after the reflash. Did not have the snap it had prior. Another quirk about the EB is that it left a black soot mark on the wall and floor of my garage where it was parked. I think the EB has a great future with Ford.....they just have some growing pains to work out.

I pull a 27 ft 10000 travel trailer and couldn't be happier with my 2011 MAX TOW XLT. Previous truck was a 2005 F250 V10. This ecoboost pulls circles around that truck and gets 25% better mileage. If you want torque, this truck DELIVERS, with max torque at 2500 rpm and is flat on up the rpm curve. The Chevy boys can't and don't equal this torque with their new 2014 engine, and what they do get is at 4100 rpm. Real loosers when this V6 out pulls them. :-)

Always a FordMan
I like the EB. Since 2004 I've driven the following
2004 F250 6.0L PSD FX4 CC (16.0 for 58K)
2007 5.4L 2WD CC(16.5 MPG for 145K) Company truck with Fuelman Tracking
2011 5.0L 2WD CC (17.2mpg for 24K) Company truck with Fuelman Tracking
2011 EB SCrew 4WD 3.73 (20.2 HWY at 70 MPH) (18.8 combined )
I've learned that easy on the pedal on the EB and smooth cruising helpinthe fuel economy. If Idrive 55 MPH I have seen 21 MPG hwy.

2013 fx4 eco here with just over 4100 miles on the clock and no issues as of yet....added 4" AFE exhaust and AFE intake which made the turbo sound more prominent and I love it. I live in south Louisiana and have yet to have any sort of issue with the CAC issue.....but I'm waiting till ~10k miles till I tune to give any issues a chance to pop up. It pulls like no bodies business

2011 eb economy
I have 57000 on it and have had no issues. Mixed highway city commute gives me 18.1 in summer when the fuel is 10% ethanol, but drops to 17 with winter blend. Have gotten 21 straight highway at reasonable speeds...like 60-65. I also pull a 30 ft travel trailer. When towing it I get 11 - 11.5.
Very happy with truck.

2013 Ecoboost with just shy of 13,000 miles. Live in the Florida Panhandle where the humidity is high year round. Drove to Virginia and back in the rain about 75% of the time both ways (70 to 75 mph). No problems with moisture.
Also pull a 20' Center Console Boat. Truck actually pulls better that my '93 Lightning pulling the same boat. Love the truck, gas mileage is good and don't really have any issues with turbo lag. As said before in this thread, it is better to roll into the throttle and not just jump on it. Good luck in your search.

2013 SCREW 4x4 Platinum. I routinely pull a travel trailer (9k) with no problems. EcoBoost and the 6 speed trans seem to be perfectly matched. No problem towing (power wise) but admittedly this much trailer is near the capacity of the chassis/suspension. Previous truck was a 2009 F250 Super Duty with the 6.4 diesel. Don't miss the operating expenses associated with the former truck and the Platinum brings all of the luxury of a Lincoln to the equation.
