3.55 or 3.73 gears?
I have a 2011 Crew EB with 3.55 gears I bought used a few years back from a friend and I gotta say right away I love the truck. Since I bought it I have installed one size larger tires, a Livernous tuner, t-stat and a AFE cold air intake. Big difference with the upgrades. I bought this truck for one reason and thats to pull my toys. I have a 4-place enclosed snowmobile trailer and a 23' boat. The boat fully loaded averages around 6-7000 pounds I'm guessing and thats the heavier of the two. Now I just got back from a round trip of about 1000 miles and the truck pulled the boat without any power issues at all. The clutch packs on my rear diff are acting up so the truck goes into the dealer tomorrow to get those replaced.
So,, the big question is now do I spend the extra $2k to put the 3.73 gears in it to help make up for the extra tire size (I can save about $500 if i do it now while they are into the rear end)? I really cant complain because it does everything I want it to do the way it is but if i get a bigger boat(always a possibility) then I'm gonna be bumming if the truck struggles to pull it. Thoughts????

If you're going to re-gear, go to 4.10's . 3.73 is only a small incremental difference and not worth the cost. You'll hardly notice the difference.

My '11 had 3.73 and max tow and it ran sweet, with good gas mileage (17, after leveling), and one size bigger (32.8 in. tires). My '14 has 34.5 in. tires and I just replaced the factory 3.55 gears with 4.11/4.10 Yukons. This gives me an effective 3.77 gear, and I love the way it runs. Gas mileage has gone up 1.5, to 16.5 overall, and I'm expecting 17.5 to 18 hwy.... We'll see.
Measure your tires, cuz' they're usually not what they say, and Look up a wheel diameter gear ratio calculator. The rpm's it gives you is at 1:1, which is fourth gear in our trucks. That gives you more room to get the 4.11 gears and not waste fuel.
If they're going to be taking out the gears anyway, I would think the only cost to you would be the gears. I paid $963 for fronts, rears, and two master rebuild kits from Summit Racing.... Mine are completely silent.
Let us know what you do..
