what is the most recent intercooler design for the 2012 model. Mine has a B at the end of the part number.

My misfire at 60 uphill has gone away, I put snow tires on, which increased the RPM at 60 to 1500. I had a feeling that's all it needed was a raise in RPM under load. Of course it will come back in the spring when I put the 20's back on.

Tech said it was the worst he'd seen. He flushed it out, rechecked all the parameters and gave it a clean bill of health. The truck is 2011 EB, driven relatively easily and only 31,000 miles. This appears to be a faulty design to me. All this crap sitting in the intake system with no way to drain out and then being sucked through the engine can't be good for it. Tech said to make certain to "blow it out" (hard acceleration) on a weekly basis. It was all covered under warranty. Ford advertised the engine as powerful, with great mileage but if you drive it to obtain the best mileage, the intake system fills up with crap. Apparently there is a TSB on it but the techs at the other dealership don't seem to know about it. Go figure. I'm documenting everything.

Update:
FYI, I filed a complaint with the National Highway Safety folks outlining the failure of the truck to complete a pass on the highway. I stated it was my opinion the failure of the engine and subsequent engaging of "limp mode", created an unsafe situation while I was attempting to pass a vehicle travelling about 40 mph in a 65 mph zone. I also stated the truck also failed when attempting to enter high-speed heavy traffic, again going into "limp mode" and allowing a maximum speed of only 50 mph in traffic moving 70 mph. I told them the design of the CAC was faulty with no way to scavenge the oil and moisture collected in the plumbing and allowing that gunk to be inhaled into the turbo system and the cylinders, causing the engine to misfire and enter the limp mode under heavy throttle at critical times, making unsafe situations for the occupants of the vehicle and surrounding traffic.

You might do the same and all with the F-150 Eco should do it as well. If we make lots of noise about the "safety issue" we might get something done...that should have been done a long time ago when the problem first started cropping up.

until a few people die or the trucks start polluting, Obama and his gang of fools won't care.

I was already done a while ago and has since been closed.

I just installed a UPR "Catch Can" on my 2011 F150 Ecoboost Lariat with 36,000 miles. After the first 30 miles I opened the drain spigot just out of curiosity, and to my shock there was a full teaspoon of this real ugly smelling water/oil/gas sludge that drained out. I also did the 1/16" hole in the right bottom of the intercooler which did have some oily goo drip out of it, and changed the plugs that were gapped at .040"+, and gapped the new ones down to .031-.032". It was developing an occasional miss, and hesitation when giving it a brisk throttle. All of that is gone, and the old beast roars again...smooth as silk. Call it a "shill" if you want, but it works, and I had never heard of a catch can before last week.

One more thing...I found out that the exhaust system is constricted down from a 5" plenum at the manifold junction to 2 1/2" for about a 5' section just ahead of the muffler. That goes against everything I know about turbo air flow, so I had that taken out, and had a 3 1/2" pipe replacement installed. The increase in sound is pretty negligible, but actually pretty pleasing if you like to hear your engine. Overall, I subjectively feel like there is a modest increase in power, as if it needs it. I am pretty sure that the beast is faster than my old 1976 Trans Am 400. I think Ford and it's customers are just learning about what they have created, and some of us users are ahead of their TSB 's.

Installed Catch Can. What it catches is what breaks down your oil, and makes it carcinogenic. Very nasty stuff.

Thanks. I installed the catch can on Monday and am waiting on drilling the hole until I see what the "can" does. From what I read, the mixture of crap entering the cylinders from the intake significantly lowers the octane rating of the gas you are using if you do not trap it with the catch can...along with the other problems. The "can" was a very simple install and sure can't hurt. I swabbed out the old PCV hose and the amount of oil on the walls of the hose was pretty obvious and that's the stuff being pumped right back into the intake. . As far as the exhaust goes, I'm planning to put a Magnaflow system in next spring along with a cold-air intake to improve the breathing on both ends. I'll look into the pipe ahead of the muffler as well. I don't was a really loud exhaust...don't like having to yell at highway speeds.

Default a bad business decision???

First post on here ever! After reading treads like this and many others I decided to join.

Bought a 2015 3.5 Eco SuperCrew 6.5 bed back in Sept. I basically wanted the turbos. Since day one it has been a steady decline in satisfaction. Fake sounds, fit and finish just not what I expected. At least the ride is nice and I do like the way the truck looks. But I wonder if I fell for the marketing hype.

At 300 miles I started noticing things people had mentioned in forums and the #3 item I bought after I got my truck was a catch can. The first two was undercoating protection from ziebart and blue flame line-x bedliner. Now the more I read the more I am afraid to drive the truck. It's my only means of transportation right now as my car is on jack stands in the garage so it seems I have no choice. I had hoped a 87 SCT eco tune would help but now i am not so sure. I just didn't expect to have a new vehicle fresh from the factory that I have to treat as used and constantly tweak it, modify it or take it to the dealer to get fixed. I wonder what else am I going to have to add or drill to fix issues that come up and probably fight Ford on because they want to void my warranty.

I mean is this normal to have to do things to a new truck like this?

I agree the fake engine noise is crap I'd turn that **** off ASAP

As for the engine (EcoBoost)
I haven't done a single thing to my truck since day 1, except oil changes and 1 air filter replacement. I got 60,000kms on it now. Runs like a scalded dog if I put the hammer down.

Got a friend with a 2011 with well over 100,000km on it. Also runs like a beast, zero modifications.

Not sure what you are so worried about, there are alot of us out there.

Keep being scared though.

I wouldn't worry about it until you have a problem. Follow the advice given here, that's what I'm doing. Run a good quality synthetic oil and drive it. When I bought my 6.4 diesel I started reading of all the horror stories about them. I drove it just waiting for something to happen, and guess what? Nothing ever did. These forums are for information, not to scare us into waiting for the next thing to go wrong with a truck. Some trucks have issues, others don't. Enjoy driving it.
