2011 Ecoboost Timing Chain - Cam Phasers - Rattle at Startup
Well, Just took my 2011 Ecoboost into the dealer. Left it overnight to let them hear the rattle on startup. They called me this AM, said they heard it, and it needs all phasers and timing chain replaced to the tune of $4400.
when I bought it new, they said it came with a "lifetime power train warranty" and he said he'd have to get back to me when i informed him of that statement.
Charging me for a known defect. If they don't fix it, ill never buy another ford again. Always changed oil when recommended, always at the dealer. I took good care of this truck, and i was skeptical a 6 cly could do the work of an 8 cyl.
Ive had 3 chevys, all went over 200K, but they had different issues. I loved my truck up until this.

I've never heard of a vehicle that comes with a "lifetime powertrain warranty"?

My money is on the dealership. Here's hoping I'm wrong. Will be following for the conclusion of this story.
*Edit* How many miles and $4,400 seems quite high for the repair. Curious what other dealers of repair shops would
charge.

DENIED!
120K miles. Said I didnt change the oil enough. I went strictly by the Ford Reccomended Oil Life Monitor - I never EVER went over what the monitor told me. They said that is not what you are supposed to do, you need to get oil changed every 5000 miles.
I always changed my oil at the dealership and I did what they told me to do. He also told me i needed to change my antifreeze at 100K and did not, even though the manual says to change antifreeze at 150K.
A known defect on a first generation Ecoboost and Ford just said, oh well. Have fun.
These issues are going on all over, my non dealer mechanic has 2 F150 ecoboosts in now, one had the chain break and wont run. the other has the same issue as mine, at 100k and he changed his oil more often than the monitor.
Look out EB owners, change your oil by mileage or trade it in before 100k.

Those lifetime powertrain warranties are a gimmick. I'm sure there are some that have had success, but I've never seen a forum post where someone actually got those warranties to payout. In fact, I've seen several where the poster went like 5100 on a single oil change interval and that was enough to deny a claim. The fine print says you have to keep every service record in writing. If you forget to file away just one the claim gets denied.
I have the 3.5L EcoBoost in my Explorer and I also got the lifetime powertrain warranty when we bought the vehicle. I pretend like it doesn't even exist. I do have a Ford ESP that should be good. But, even still, I had already planned on changing the oil at 5,000 miles and not when the OLM says to.

The bigger issue here is its a known issue up until 2014. Its poor design, and they finally fixed it but ford does not care. 100k disposable engine. Ill never buy another ford again, right or wrong.

What is the issue?
I have a ‘12 and have had the same issue since I bought it last year. What did they say was wrong and is it something that needs to get fixed or is just annoying?
