me and my buddies have done this as well, we did it to 3 trucks and they love it

i recently traded my 95 f150 2wd 300 for a 96 f150 4x4 5.0. im astonished at the difference in hauling power. my straight six would out pull out haul out last any 5.0, anyday. 300 or 460 are the best motors ever built imo, having owned both. in fact i drug my buddies 96 5sp powerstroke turbo diesel backwards with my auto striaght six at a pull we had. the look on his face=priceless!

I bought one in 95 F150 for my boys figured it would be pretty reliable. So far so good. A big plus is that in-line motors are easy to work on. A common problem is the head Will crack on cylinder two at the water jacket. Copper seal fixes that though.

In all fairness I forgot to mention it's hard to find this motor in anything but a work truck. That usually means used and abused or neglected.

in my opinion these motos are just awesome, my dad bought a 89 f150 4x4 reg. cab brand new with the 300 6 cly, drove it , got 115,000 miles and when i was 2 years old decided to sell the truck in 1996 to have more room to pack me around, he did regular matinence on it and thats it, we seen the guy he bought it from a few weeks ago at wal mart and talked to him bout it, he said he has kept the oil changed in it and thats all he has to do to it and the odometer went out 2 years ago with 347,000 miles, great truck! im 17 and bought a 1993 f150 4x4 with a 302 when i turned 16 and it has been a good truck, imo ford trucks went down hill after 1996, there aint nothin like a good 300 or 302

These engines are built to last...that's why they don't make them any more I'm sure. I have had countless 302's in my Mustangs, but these are the choice for a work truck. The 460 is damn near indestructible, but Ford Trannies can't hold together behind one for very long! LOL And the MPG is attrocious! My main issues with the 300 is the horrible obd1 computer management.

What's so horrible about it? Always seemed pretty straight forward to me.

I've gone through 5 trannies, but only two 4.9s. And I only changed the original because I ran it so damn hot, it still ran good.

Obd2 is just a little more convenient isnt it? My truck only throws a code after about an hour of straight driving but it goes away when i restart the truck.... never had any computer problems from my truck... just the clutch and that headlight housing melting out lol
