Working on a 4.9
I have a 94' f150 with a 4.9l straight 6 with 231,000 miles on it. I was wondering what should I do to it? I was thinking about dropping a whole engine in it. Its like $1700 and it comes with a 4-5 year 36,000 mile warranty.
But beside that what should I do to it to get some more power out of it? There is a KandN filter in there and a Cherry bomb glass back also.
Thanks

What kind of shape is your present motor in? Good compression and the like? One concern would be that adding more oomph at this stage of the game may be a waste should the motor fail or be worn to the point that gains from mods may be reduced.
How much of a performance gain are you looking for, and what is your budget? What kind of performance - more low-end grunt, or more get-up-and-go?
This really isn't my area of expertise - if it runs reliably, I leave it alone. I'm sure with some additional info, others will gladly chime in.

First of all get rid if the Cherry Bomb. Like he said check the compression and make sure its good. Honestly I wouldnt try to get any performance out of the 6. If you want performance go with the v8

There is no cherry on there any more, it made the engine worse so I took that off. Now after thinking about it if I do something to the engine I would have to work on the rest of the drive train. So I think I might just go with a 4'' lift and some 33's and mabey re gear it or something like that.
