Default Workin' on my freeze plugs

No work today and since I have a pile of work to do to the truck this weekend I started on the freeze plugs. Came inside for a break and decided to write about it.

I've got the I6, and I see 5 plugs on the side. 3 of them were definitely leaking, but I guess I'll change them all. I'll have to pull the rear exhaust manifold to get to one, and I can't just skip that one because it's one that is leaking. I hope I don't snap the bolts. I pulled the inner fenderwell for better access and I've got two of the plugs out. I've got brass ones so they don't rot out again.

Well, back to it. I'll update later.

You have to pound them into the block and pull them out with pliers. I snapped one exhaust manifold bolt and I had to cut the EGR tube because it wouldn't unscrew from the manifold. Fixing the bolt shouldn't be too bad, I've got a welder if worse comes to worse. The tube I'm not too sure of. I suppose I could weld it too but I don't want to. I'm considering deleting the EGR now.

Do you guys think I could patch the tube with a heater hose? Do you think it would last, at least for a while?

Cut it off short and use a socket to remove nut. Your problem will be getting a replacement. Good seeing ya again.

I got the stud out of the manifold, so now I need to find a replacement. I also got the remainder of the tube off, I'll figure out what I want to do with it later. It wasn't too bad changing the plugs other than those problems. I pulled the inner fenderwell off which gave me adequate room to work. I've got a picture for ya:

You can see the center 3 were leaking. The second from the left is the one behind the manifold. Sorry, I don't know how to resize the picture so I couldn't upload it to my album.

Well, finished that earlier today. Auto parts store didn't have the right exhaust manifold studs, so I found a bolt to use. I welded the EGR pipe because I figured I'd better do it right. I don't want to have to mess with it again. All seems good.
