It will go in just fine. You won't need a different driveshaft unless your truck has a different pinion flange, but you can swap your pinion flange on. The gear ratio should be stamped on the tag but I have seen them as 2 digits (4.10= 4.1).

Are you offering to install the gears for him for free? It's easier to swap the rear end.

a gear swap isn't really that hard, i would rather do that then change the whole axle out. plus while your in there you can throw a lunch box locker in, assuming you have an open diff.

but who wants a locker in a street truck
a standard positive traction unit is better for the street

What the hell are you talking about? You have to remove the rear to put in new gears, so why not just swap in a different one.

Sure, putting in the gears isn't hard but if you don't set them right you will be under the truck changing them again soon.

since when do you have to take the axle out to do a gear swap? i would prefer a Detroit style locker even for the street, but i guess if you like it a bit more tame posis are cool too.

Ok, if you're a mechanic and have access to a lift then you can leave the rear end in, but if you're like me you aren't going to lay on your back for hours installing gears.
