Default wiper not laying against windshield

My 96 F150 drivers side wiper is blowing around in the wind and with spring and rain here in Seattle, I need some help with a permanent fix. Is there a way to tighten it? Any ideas? Thanks.

Replace the arm. Sounds like the spring is weak inside the wiper arm.

Sanjaysauce,

I have the same problem on my '95 F150. The driver side wiper didn't seem to have enough spring to push the wiper down hard enough to do any good. Like suggested above, I replaced the arm. Unfortunately the new arm did not fix it.

At the bottom of the arm, you'll see where it attaches to the motorized wiper unit (the part that spins side to side giving the wiping motion). This small cylinder-looking part has small splines on it which connects it to the arm. The problem I had was the cylinder piece was loose and the force of the moving arm caused it to move away from it's stock position, causing the arm to have less force on the wiper than normal.

To fix this I pushed the splined cylinder all the way down to it's stock position and soldered it there. That seemed to help me but the solder won't last too long and I'll need to do it again most likely. Hope this helps.

Default Follow Up to the solder idea

If you decide you don't want to the short-term fix of the solder...here is a page out of the LMC truck catalog showing the exact part you need to buy to fix your problem. The red arrows point to what you'll need. Good luck!

Also, some wiper arms have a clip down where it attaches to the splined hub that will hold the wiper arm away from the windshield - presumably to help with installing and removing the arm from the stub. Not sure if Ford trucks have this 'feature'.
