Why don`t people finish their threads ?
Hello everybody. New guy here, just wondering why people start a thread, get Good advise on possible causes but don`t follow up and let anybody know what actually fixed the problem ?? I`ve been browsing on this site for about 1 year now and found lots of great info but noticed most (not all ) threads just end with the advise. Obviously i`m referring to threads with a few possibilities,,Or is it just me ?? Just realized i probably posted this in the wrong place.Sorry newbie here.

I agree. It would be awesome if they did that. That is why the same question ends up getting asked many times. Sometimes I will do internet searches that lead back to this site (or sometimes others) on a thread from a couple years ago that never had a follow up post. xD That can get nerve racking when trying to do research. That's when the google button fails.

Well their lives obviously revolve enough to come and "use" helpful contributing members for their benefit. A solution is the least one could do!

Its like a business, you HARDLY EVER get positive feedback. Once it hits the fan though, you get "that didn't work what else do I do?" "you guys my truck was good for "x" amount of time then started back up" then once its actually fixed. Hey, its fixed. go on about my life.

I would say this ^^^ is probably the case 90% of the time. I don't know how many times people have asked multiple questions in one thread and I kept checking back to see if they report back and get nothing. Not only will it help people who are searching for answers and don't or can't wait for someone to respond but it also educates the people that are trying to help. There are certain problems where the majority of the time it's the obvious/most common solution to the issue but then you get those few cases where it's something totally out of left field, then people know to suggest that as a "possibility" when someone else is having similar troubles that aren't caused by the usual suspects.
I would have to agree it would be nice to have "possibilities" but then again what are the chances of a completely random left field concern be duplicated again? If you have something that only one person in 5 years has had then, the next 5 years would it be nice to have a thread to go to? yeah, what are the odds though?
At the same time goin back to my "hardly ever get positive feedback" statement. Like with a business, If the person isn't complaining then you did a good job and they are out there promoting. Same way with the thread, if they didn't come back to let you know if one recommendation fixed it or not then one of two things happened. Either they forgot to come back and tell you what happened or it fixed it and they are going on about their life, correct? So with that in mind wouldn't it be safe to say that if they don't come back, one of the ideas put towards his question probably fixed it?
