Default Engine Identification

Have a 1988 F150 with a 302 v8 which is dead replaceing it with a used one I got, the guy says it's a 92-95 series not sure what year exactly. I want to know what year and if it came from a car or truck so where is the vin number on the engine block I cant find it anywhere?
Thanks

Ok here is waht I have found out, there is no serial or vin number on the engine block just a casting number located just above the stater mount on the engine block. It read as a E7TE which means it's a 1987 model engine which came out of a 1995 F150. So thats what I have found out so far.

Its definitely a truck engine, e=80s 7=year t=truck code e=engine code, there are a couple of numbers\letters after that, but usually the first set determine the years, you can also look on the heads, ex manifolds, timing cover, anywhere else on the motor that could determine the year.
