Ok update once again:
My buddy with the 302 for $100 I went over to his place to help him with something and while there checked out his 302. The engine is in great shape. The oil is a bit old but no metal, dirt, or such in there. He said it came from a running truck with no tittle. I personally can't find any reason it wouldn't run with a couple of pieces replaced off my engine. So the plan is this. Pull my 302 and drop this 302 in after getting an oil pump and water pump to be on the safe side. Take my 302 and set it aside and once I have our garage built and I get the money build my 302 to be the sweetest 302 in a 88 F150 possible. Then either wait for this engine to blow or drop my 302 (in there now) back in.
Also my buddy has a brush guard off his 90 Ford crew cab he is willing to sell for $25 needs some welding here and their but not bad. Going to pick that up it is like the one on the 89 F250 above. Currently it has 1 KC light (the truck hit an elk) so going to pick up a set of lights to put on it and use the KC light somewhere else (it is an older model that is no longer sold).
All this plus we are getting another Ford (F250) for my brother.

well been a while since I have been on. I got the engine and turned out the damn engine was junk (spark plugs removed, and more while sitting) so I said screw it I am going to either get a long block or crate or keep looking on craigslist and use this one I picked up as a core (core charges are $200+ around here) and I found an engine shop that will sell me a long block for $850 about out the door. So not sure what I am doing on that part. I am hoping one day to build a sweet 351W or 302.

Anyways what updates I do have is this:
I picked up a stock ford radio with the fade option for free at the junkyard. Not sure if it works or not yet. Also picked up a gauge cluster with tach from the junkyard $20. I painted the needles florescent Bright red and threw it in but I still haven't fixed my gear selector.
I did get the brush guard over here just waiting till I put the engine in to fix it and throw it on so it doesn't get in my way. I may throw the KC light on my back bumper somewhere for a auxiliary reverse light.
Also threw some black mirrors on my truck with blind spots. They sit tighter to the truck which is better because of the off roading I do.

Truck in the background is my brothers new to him 91 F250 with 2inch lift

Well went and put my old cluster up for sale since I won't be needing it.
Thinking about removing the lower valance on the bumper as it makes the truck look very low. What do you all think?

I moved her from where she is in the pics yesterday. I have been looking on craigslist for a good engine 302 or 351W running in the truck with little luck. I found one truck running with bad trans 88 351W and really want it but not sure if I will have the money in time and what to do with the rest of the truck since it has a straight body like mine just an extended cab. I thought about getting it then dropping a 460 in it (the one on craigslist) but not sure just yet as I haven't gotten it.

What do you all think of these photoshops I did (not the best I am not very good at it)
I think this will look good minus I am going to run black mirrors like I put on

Well few updates since I forgot about this thread.
Picked up a set of wheels and tires. They are 31 10.5 R15s. They have about 50% tread.
picked up some bed rails with tie downs built in them for $40.
Picked up some coil spring spacers for $4.
picked up a rear bumper and painted it aluminum for free till I can get a chrome one.
Bored the engine over .040 from my buddy and pulled my old engine out. Still waiting to get a rebuild kit since a family emergency came up.
I haven't installed the leveling spacers just yet. The heads are all I have a picture of right now.

Got the crank polished. Looks great. Personally I think it looks better then the brand new crank I have on another rebuild we are doing.

Dropped the block off to be honed and have the pistons put on the rods.
Also getting the cam bearings and having them installed.

Here are the pistons I am running:

I hope you found those pistons cheaper somewhere else.

I got a discount on them at $73.99 because the first pistons I ordered that they said worked on this truck and my brother's 460 ended up being the wrong ones so we sent them back and got a $20 on each of our pistons.

BTW: how much power does your truck make with your current set up and how much do you expect with the Trick flow heads?

I haven't gotten my truck dynoed, but I think I'm in the 240-280 range. With the Trick Flows, I expect to be in the 280-310 range. I came up with these numbers by using the stock 185hp engine as my baseline and conservatively estimating the HP increase for each mod.

Conservative Estimate:

Stock Engine - 185hp
Camshaft - 20hp
Heads - 20hp
Intake - 15hp

Low side 240hp

Optimistic Estimate:

Stock Engine - 185hp
Camshaft - 40hp
Heads - 40hp
Intake - 15hp

High Side 280hp

Last edited by qdeezie; 01-12-2015 at 02:04 PM. Reason: Math was off in low side estimate.
