Default what transmission is in my 87 f150

i have a automatic 87 f150 with a 302 and i would like some help identifying my transmission. its got cruze control and overdrive and thats all i know.

Im not good with automatics but I would say a C6. I think the AOD tranny came out later on. (correct me someone if I am wrong)

On your door jamb there is a placard, there is a letter listed under tr (#10 in pic) that will tell you what kind of transmission you have, takes a google search but very simple.

Being an 87 you only could have a C6 or AOD.
Being you have overdrive you have the AOD.


The C6 is a 3spd with no OD.




Ford 4x4 you are thinking of the E4OD which came out in 1989.

Thanks Trav, like I said i not no the specifics of the automatics since all my trucks are manuals lol

I have to remember both plus in other brands since I have autos and manuals plus remember rear ends and front ends so I have gotten fairly good at it.LOL

Lol I remember most axle codes, and all manual tranny's. Is axle code 17 a 2.73? I can never remember that one lol

I am reading it is a 3.25 but I am not sure on that one as I have never had a truck under a 3.55 gear ratio.

I cannot ever seem to find what that one is. I know a 18 is 3.08 and 19 is 3.55 so wouldnt it be correct to say 17 is numerically lower than 3.08?
