Hello everyone I am totally new to this site and I am sure that there is a lot of great info on here and I cannot wait to dig into it and find out what is all on here. But i am at a downfall right now i just bought my first truck it is an 1994 f150 XLT that has the 5.0 EFI engine in it but the transmission is messed up, it will only go in reverse, and I need help finding out what transmission I have in the truck so that i can find a replacement for it, or maybe fix it. any advice will help. thanks everyone!

okay have been doing some looking about what tranny i have and i think it is either the AODE or the 4R70w. although a lot of people say that it could be either one. so i am not sure but i am thinking that either one will work.

if you have an overdrive button on the end of your shifter and a D,2,1 in the dash, you'll probably find that the door jamb code is a "U". If it is you have an AODE-W. (AODE-W also has a squarish trans pan)

If not, it's an E4OD (has a more regtangle trans pan with 20 bolts). Really the only 2 automatic 4 speed transmissions Ford used with our year trucks and pushrod engines.

It's NOT a 4R70W, they were only used with modular (4.6/5.4L) engines. I don't care what website you saw it on.

I erased my previous comment because I just realized that this chart won't really help your situation. My bad.

okay everyone i checked the code and it is "U" i also tired to drive the truck again and when it is in drive i can feel the transmission trying to ingage but just revs up, reverse still works fine. i checked the fluid level and it was a little over full and it smelt really burnt. so i am thinking that it might be the solinoid (spelling) not engaging but i am not sure. any thoughts?

does anyone know if it is difficult to change the Solenoids in the AODE tranny? or have any advice of how to do it?
