Default My Old '93

I sold my '93 to a friend of mine about 7 or 8 years ago. He is selling it now himself and asked if I would be interested.

Sentimentally, I want to jump on it. However, there were issues with the truck when I sold it and he has made me aware of a problem with a head gasket and a cylinder losing compression.

The truck has 152k on it. It is a Super Cab short bed 4x2. It has the 5.0L and 3.08 gears. It was used for quite a bit of towing during the time I owned it but the original tranny is still working well.

As much as I want the truck back, I don't want another headache as I have another vehicle that is eating me alive already.

Any thoughts?

Cylinder loosing compression is most likely due to the bad headgasket. Its not an expensive fix if you can do labor yourself.

Many years ago someone told me not to fall in love when buying or selling a car that they are after all just an appliance. As true as that might be most people have certain favorites and many here I'm sure have kept vehicles long beyond their time for sentimental reasons and there is nothing wrong with that as long as its remotely practical from a financial and safety perspective.

My Dad, the father of seven, upon his retirement bought a brand new red 83 F150 XL Rc Sb when he retired to haul the trailer between Florida and Maine and it his pride and joy great that eventually found its way to my sister then to me. Many years later my son was the last to own it and at 220k the 302 and AOD were still original but tired and the frame had failed near the tranny mount. When I called my Dad to announce that his truck was finally going to be retired his only reaction was its about time and why did we keep the truck such a long time. After the 83 I became a Ford truck guy.

Currently I have a 95 F150 Sc Sb that I love and most of my family and friends have been urging me to at least buy something made in this century. Although in good shape it now has 243k with a few good character dents and the front end and frame joints are starting to make noises etc, etc. I will probably get something else next year but this truck will always remain one of my favorites. When I bought it (used) it was love at first sight and even though I was pretty thorough in checking it out I knew I was going to buy as I pulled into the dealers lot.

as some one who has owned quite a few ford trucks, and having one that will probably be in my possession until i'm dead and gone, their was a reason you sold it in the first place, think about that reason? were you short on cash, building a bigger family, or were you getting rid of headache? what ever the reason, think that over. if you think the truck will be a headache for you i would pass on it,

you also need to look at the price you can get it for, the cost of getting it back to tip tip shape, can you do the work yourself? or do you have to have a shop do it?

not to dog on your truck, but from you description of it its not any thing that wouldn't be real hard to find one like it in better shape. and maybe with more options.
