A bump and a dump...

I didnt do anything to my truck today other than chase parts for 2 other F150 owners....

pretty bad when there are 3 people all with F150s and all 3 trucks have issue and 2 of those owners need rides home...lol

I started off the day by letting my buddy bring over his 95 F150 4x4 ext cab 5.0L truck for a rear main seal fix...radius rod brackets and bushings...front shocks

We started buy pulling the tranny and transfer case all in one unit...pulling both shafts and the trany lines and the bolts...

Thats when I found a drain plug in the convertor...SWEET we needed to flush teh trany and this just made my job easier....but thats where the easy stops...

Ford in their infinite wisdom doesnt use a large inspection cover like GM so pulling Torque converter bolts wasnt much fun...Nor do they use nuts and bolts loose for the converter...the bolts are welded to the converter and the nuts hold it to the flywheel...this makes installing the trany a real bear if things dont line up...

got the trany out and I am whooped...it was frozen on the pins and I had the wiggle the snot out of it and I think I ripped a motor mount in the process....it was on that tight...

Had to go chase a rear main seal...but I popped the old one out easily with a screw driver and cleaned the hole...this one was leaking both at the lip and around the seal....cleaned it and then use a sealer on teh outer edges and Lucas lube on the lip...it aint going to leak again...

changed the shocks...mounted the flywheel for tomorrow when the trany goes in...

In the middle of all that my cousin shows up with a 98 F150 with the 4.2L V6...heater core needed flushed...easy enough right? HELL NO...some moron broke the coolant line Tee for the heater core and bypass the couldnt get it out of the water pump...they broke in in 3 spots and JB-welded it all...held good until cousing touched the hose and it started oozing all over...that fitting is $175.00 and a Dealer Only Item here...THANKS FORD...you suck

the water pump is another 88.00...nice I am not liking this at all...now I gotta drop the pump and try to cut the old fitting out...this kid aint got the coin to waste...I think I can get it out if the pump is off...Damn life sucks at times...

even at my age of 38 I feel whipped as I havent changed a trany in a while...spending too much time in front of the PC playing games and posting...

End of rant today move along....

Installed my msd coil, msd rotor, ford racing wires, and new plugs. Bumped the timing to 14. And pulled my mechanical fan and installed my thermostat controlled electric fan. Should help a little

Back to the shop yesterday and today....

Got the trany and transfer case back in...Boy I hate Ford here..why they put bolt sticking out of the Torque Converter is beyond me...this makes installing teh trany so much harder....having a nut on it instead would make my life so much easier...

got it all back together and changed the Radius Rod bushing and Brackets...truck no longer pulls to the right...

fired it up and now oil started running out by the starter...dammit oil pan gasket...

So today I pulled the upper intake and motor mounts and jacket up the engine...broke all 4 exhaust bolts because they were rusted...luckily they were double nut bolts with a nut end behind the flange...

had to cut the AIR pipe tube...as the exhaust wouldnt slide back without getting this off and it wasnt happening...so it got cut...exhaust slid back...

heck I was happy that teh EGR tube came off because as rough as that thing looked I would have bet it wasnt going to and I could see the pipe twisting ...but nothing like that happened and the nut broke free and it came right off...sweet...

after the exhaust got slid back we jacked upt eh engine as high as it would go...wiggled the pan out and after I pulled the rest of the oil out (about a cup) I saw something I didnt like...

I found 2 pieces of PISTON...what? where did that come from...? of coarse I knew where it came from but why? looked like #2 cylinder and the camshaft side (top) popped the bottom part of the skirt...it was in 2 pieces in the oil pan...I couldnt find any issue...I figure someone over revved it and it broke...

I also got lucky with the exhaust...heated teh broken studs up with a MAP gas torch and once they got hot squirted them with trany fluid and all of them broke free and I worked them back and forth until I got them out...

Those were metric studs as well and I didnt want to go get any and the closest American treading which is really close...I mean real close was 7/16-14 so I basically chased a tap through there and it took little effort but now this for has Chevy short headbolts for exhaust bolts...a little Anti-Seize high temp coating and they are good to go...

Pan on...gasket in place put it all back together...fired right up...buddy is very happy now..truck runs better and drives better and shifts 1000 times better he says...

I am whooped though...now tomorrow to fix the MIL's car...92 Cutlass Ciera needs a Harmonic Balancer...
