I was at the parts store just today to get gear oil for my differential and the guy said..... I'm gonna save you some money and have ya go with regular brand not performance..... I said why what's wrong with royal purple...... he said nothing sure it is a smoother lube and might let every thing just slide nice but so does the regular stuff royal purple promises horsepower and longer life but yet you have to change it regular just like the regular stuff..... and this guy who told me this is a real good friend of mine and I know he wouldn't steer me wrong

Good point... If you have to change it every 30k, why is one better that the other? Aren't they all oil!

Exactly all oil so I would weather pay the 4.99 for my gear oil as opposed to 19.99

Well question is, if you like a certain lube do you have a reason? Do you notice a difference in wear vs someone that has regular oil?

Being a snowmobiler I've seen plenty of oil wars. I finally just said heck with it and started bying Citgo gas station 2 stroke oil. $3.50/qt (at the time) vs $12-15/qt. I pulled the top end of the motor after 1000 miles and thats first time I seen a motor with no a single mark in the motor. I was hard on that sled too.

I know this is bit of a stretch in this discussion. But truthfully, I think using high end lube in situations where you will change it often enough then seem's useless.

With that said, its 15 bucks over the course of 30k miles, so roughly 2 years? Also when I had a 99 Contour SVT, I got synthetic oil changes in that. $60 vs $25 so not like I'm against using pricer oil.

As far as "My buddy wouldn't steer me wrong", your call. My snowmobile buddy swore by Ipone 2 stroke oil. Some high end 2 stroke oil that cost $45 a gallon. My sled lost the top end within 300 miles of using it. That's when I switched to the cheap stuff.
