What brand alternator?
Thinking between my E-fan and rear speakers running on an amplifier the 60amp original alt may get taxed with lights on, heater on full blast, and the music up this winter so I am going to upgrade before it becomes an issue. I don't honestly think I'll need 130 so probably just going with a 95. My question is there any brands to stay away from? I won't buy AZ's brand of anything.
Been checking rockauto and came across a couple I may be interested in:
TYC Part # 207750 95amp $94.79, or for $10 more their 130 amp version
REMY Part # 92323 95amp $105.79, gold series (whatever that entails)
Never used those brands for anything, don't want to spend $200 for a Motorcraft that is remanufactured, and even the extra 40-50 for the Bosch seems like it could be used elsewhere on the truck.
Any suggestions or opinions on brands, or even other options will be greatly appreciated.

Why mess with it if your replacing the alternator just get the 130, it's plug and play if you already have 3G. As for brand any local parts store that has a lifetime warranty. Hard to know if quality is any different from place to place. I think they all source the China stuff so chances it will last more than a few years is slim, might as well be able to pull it and have a warranty unit back in quick. Waiting for an online supplier to warranty a critical part like that would stink.

I considered that, planned on keeping the old one in my JIC (just in case) box for any emergencies since it still works just fine. I've got the 60amp 3g so yes anything will be plug and play, just upgrade the wire.
Priced the auto stores and for a 130 (for e-150 since they don't offer for F-150) price is 150 + 35 core and it's reman. I also wouldn't have my backup if I get the core $ back. To me online is going to be the way to go.

x2 on what sdmartin65 said. After having my original for 16 or so years, I bought the Duralast at Autozone with lifetime warranty. I have had to replace it twice, but I don't think it was an alternator issue that was causing the problem. I had problems else where. But it was nice to go down to the store and pick up a new one and switch it out in no time. The one in it now has been in at least a year. But if it goes bad, pop into "the zone" and get a new one for free.

Just ordered the TYC 130amp, $108 with shipping and discount. Having a local warranty on a questionable product doesn't outweigh the cost savings for me with the same warranty. Found out a buddy has a TYC he put in his truck 3-4 years ago and has never had a problem. Unlike parts store alt's which I'd say about every other time I'm in one it seems that someone is bringing back an alt for a replacement.

Most alternator shops will build a 130a for around $75 and you will have local support and a quality product. I won't buy an alternator if the alternator shop is open. I can drop an alternator off at 8am and pick it up at lunch in most cases. Even if you do not have a 3g, a shop can build up to 120a on a 60a case. With a fan/pulley swap, my shop has built me several 150a's. Custom jobs are cheaper, built to need and again, local.

That was my first thought, no shops that do alt's within 50 miles. I heard a couple "I got a friend who has rebuilt a couple" but being in a small town, surrounded by small towns, there really isn't much around here.

Maybe to many trucks?
Keeping a spare altenator on hand may not help. A lot of times when a altenator sits for a long amount of time it just stops working (no idea why).

Got my TYC 130 installed today and I couldn't be happier, upgraded the cable to 4 gauge with a 150amp fuse, used the old cable to double up the body ground from the battery terminal, cleaned all of the eyelets and bolts, used dielectric grease so hopefully I don't ever have to mess with them again.
Turned my lights on, heater on high, stereo blasted, plugged in my coffee mug warmer, cell phone charger, and 4 neon lights. The dummy gauge never budged and was sitting slightly higher than it used to with just the radio on low volume.
Thanks for the 130 suggestion, 90 would have been ok but now I have more power and will find ways to use it. First I'm going to upgrade the power point wiring to handle more flow, as well as do the headlight wiring upgrade and put some projector HID's in. Been thinking about the cab lights and maybe some running lights, but that will be later.
