Unable to read codes
Hello all - I've been enjoying reading many of the posts here as this seems to be the go-to place for information on our trucks.
I searched and cannot find the answer. My 1898 4.9 is stumbling and wants to die under load. I have a digital OBDI reader and can't get any codes, doing the wire trick doesn't work either. Check engine light just stays on. Bad ECM?

I'm trying to identify the correct ECC for my truck. Autozone/Napa are no help so I talked to Cardone, the people who rebuild these things and they weren't able to tell me what I have either. The P/N is E8AE-6E061-AHB and the calibration is 7-51H-R00. Here is a photo of the sticker. Thoughts?

manual or auto, do you live in (or was the truck originally from) california or a mountain state (colorado, montana, etc..), is your current unit grey or black. If you can answer these then I can point you to the right one on rockauto, or you can just pull it up.
Ford>89>F150>4.9
Then find either auto or standard (which ever you have)
California (self explanitory), High altitude (mountain state), or Federal emissions (everyone else)
Make sure the color is correct
Find one that matches all the above criteria and that's the one you need. If there is more than one that matches everything try comparing your VIN# to the ID# of the ECC and look for any matching letters/numbers

Thanks for the help guys. Analog didn't work either so going to replace the ECC. Removed, the P/N is visible...can't find the exact # on RockAuto/Napa, etc. but I'll call Calzone on Monday. Hopefully their remans are decent.
Again, thanks for the help.

I'm having a similar issue, I havent hooked up a code reader yet but I did buy one yesterday at autozone. Keep me/us posted please! My light comes on but its only a solid "on" when the truck is malfunctioning.

Thanks for the update, I couldnt get any codes out of it with the reader either. It only comes on when malfunctioning and never stores the codes I guess. I'll try swapping ecu's.
