I had a similar problem with my 5.0 right after purchasing it. Would spit and sputter but wouldn't start. Checked for spark, and it was there. Fuel pressure ok. Wired up correctly. Finally, I found the issue: I had water under my distributed cap. Took paper towel and dried it out good. Started and it purred like a kitten! I assume you checked, but sometimes the obvious gets us... I assume my spark was just too weak before...
