Truck won't go into 4wd low...
My buddy just sold me a 1994 F150 4x4 because he was using it as a farm truck and he just sold his farm so the truck had to go. The truck only has 135,000km on it but needs some major body work. Anyways, the transmission and transfer case seem fine but it will not go into 4wd low. 2wd and 4wd high work great, the shifter just wont move into 4wd low. Im not sure if something is seized or what...? Also the brakes need replacing big time so i dont know if there is some sort of sensor for the transfer case that the breaks need to be on to be put in 4wd low...
Any help would be awesome because I am really stumped on this one...

If you have the mechanical shifter on the transmission hump - there is a side-shift needed to go over into Neutral and 4-Lo. The pattern should be on the shift ****. If this hasn't been exercised regularly, may need to get up underneath and clean&lube the linkage in order to get things moving freely again. It is prone to bind and freeze up if not used.
If you have electronic shifting - eh, that's above my pay grade :-)
As far as shifting procedure - to go into 4-Lo, I have the vehicle stopped, tranny in neutral. The key is to be sure there's no torque on the driveline during the shift. Don't know that brakes are part of the picture, at least for my model year.

just getting the easy, and most cheapest idea out of the way. when your in 4 wheel drive, low range only works when the truck is in neutral. you tried that yet? lol not tryin to make an obvious remark, but you dont know how many of people who i know who own ford trucks dont know how to put it in low, including me. took me about a year to figure it out when i first got my truck.

Thanks for the quick replies! I tryed all that stuff already and the linkage is rather lubed up. I didnt know if there was actually something in the transfer case that would be preventing it from shifting into low. Does anyone know where to get an exploded diagram of the transfer case? Or any parts for that matter...
