Unhappy truck stutters and boggs down????

1992 f150 4x4 4.9l auto/with overdrive 3.55 gears
truck sputters on take off and i have to feather the throttle untill i get to about 25 mph then it runs good, it also boggs down going up hills if i hit a long hill at 65 then buy the time i get to the top i'll be at 30-40 mph, and aslo driving almost anytime, if i push the gas down it down shifts but doesnt run any faster, just jumps the rmps up on the engine pretty much. i have some bleed back of fuel off the motor, i have to turn the key on and off about 5 times or more to push the fuel back up to the engine, i changed the fuel filter about 2 weeks ago and it improved a little but went right back to the same thing. also if i'm just sitting in park and give it gas it spits and sputters for a few seconds.
and information on a fix would be great.
also on another note, sometimes when i shut off the engine it kinda makes a thunk sound.????

Welcome to the forum! Have you performed a fuel pressure test yet?

no not yet, i'm going to just go ahead and put in a new fuel pump, screen, and another inline filter and clean out the tank, i'm sure its going to have some gunk in it with almost 200k. one guy at work told me the bleed back is more than likely a faulty check valve in the pump.

I believe he was right about it. About tank cleaning - the best way is to remove it for that, don't use any of fuel system cleaning additives if you never applyed them to your truck before, that will most probably result clogged injectors.

is you check engine light comming on? my truck did the same thing and it turned out to be the throttle position sensor. my check engine light would come on whenever i let my foot off of the gas. once i put pressure back on the pedal it would shut off again.

It would be best to read codes first. This thread will tell you how:

well i changed the fuel pump and filter this weekend, everything is running good, i think my tps is bad/going bad too. when the truck is warmed up and been running a while it idles kinda high, but if i shut it down and start it right back up it runs fine, but i have no more bogging down or losss of power, wwasnt the hard to put in either took the longest to get the filler neck put back on,

thanks for all of the help with everything.

TPS on a vehicle that old is not uncommon. I would change it just for GP, and clean the throttle body.. Maybe even do an induction service with BG products.
