I have a 92 F-150 with the 300ci 6cyl. I have already pulled the power steering pump pulley off and removed the power steering pump (original ford pump with about 180,000 miles on it). Getting the pulley off was something else. That dude was ON there, real good. I have been looking at replacement pumps from advance auto, napa, and auto zone. None of the reviews of the pumps from advance auto are giving me a warm fuzzy....so far everyone I have read about absolutely hates them. They say after 5000 miles they have to be replaced. Some leak right away. That leaves the other 2. Does anyone have any experience with power steering pumps from auto zone (duralast) or napa? I really dont want to replace this pump again. It was no fun at all.

There is a reason their called duracrap. Dint last long and are pieces of Shat. IMO I'd go with a rebuild kit. Costs about $30-$50

 

What about the NAPA pumps? Does anyone have any experience with them?

 

I've heard nothing bad about them or pepboys pumps. I have a motorcraft one in my truck. It's the original pump all I did was pull it off buy a rebuild kit. Clean it up real good. Replaced all the hoses just to be safe cause they were cracking. Never had a problem except a slight whine.

 

I have used both napa and autozone I've always had better luck going with the ones with the reservoir instead of just the pump. Also use the tool to install the pully or you can use a bolt, a thick washer and a nut to press it back on. That way you're not as likely to hurt the shaft seal.

I would also consider making the swap to the van pump and bracket, line setup.

Also you can use the lucas power steering stop leak in the pump that will help on the whinning that most of these pumps have.

 

My bronco will be getting the saginaw pump from a van before it hits the road,those Ford pumps are just too noisy for me.

 

Bracket is the same, you would just need the pump, pulley and line.
