Dodge+Ford = always ready
i use to pull a 23 ft travel trailer (bumper pull) with my 96 f150 5.0 4 speed automatic. it does fine in almost all conditions. i wouldn't want to pull the thing up alot of hills or have to do alot of passing with it. also the trailer came out to around 3500-3800 pounds. the only comparison i got for the fifth wheel is we use to pull one with my girlfriends dodge and it handled that fine also. so anything under 4000 pounds is fine.

I used a '89 F150 4x4 w/300 & 5 spd. for towing cars on my trailer. Hills really sucked unless I was already at highway speed. Longest tow was around 400 miles, Towing a 89 Turbo Coupe T-Bird on my car trailer, total of around 5,500 - 6,000 lbs, got 17 MPG!! Class V hitch with weight distribution bars.
