Default transmission shift problem

Hello
I have a 91 f350 with a 5.8 engine and i think A e40d tranni.
my problem is that at slow speeds it shifts back and forth between 2nd and drive and also it doesn't down shift when you floor it.
my question is does the vehicle speed sensor in the rear end control
shifting and that's what could be problem
thank's in advance

there are quite a few of us going through tranny problems. Mine included, she likes to snap your neck when shifting.
As a suggestion pull codes and then check out these threads, there is a bunch of info that is good. Im in the process myself of going through it to figure out my problem. Good luck

The last one has links that will lead to a ton of info about the e4od to help out

No problem. Glad they went away. I wish mine would. Its pretty sad when your family nicknames your truck old blue jerk. Old blue cause she's blue with a silver stripe and jerk cause she jerks your neck when shifting. I'll figure it out eventually. happy truckin

The not shifting when you floor it would most likely have to do with your kickdown cable

Well i figured out my problem. The previous owner had installed steps on the side of the truck and drilled the bolts up through the wiring harness and shorted them all out. So I went through and replaced all the bad wires and now no shifting problems. Shifts like a dream. However some sensor somewhere does not like huge puddles. With all the rain we've had lately once something gets wet, it shifts hard again. Given enough time to dry out the problem goes away. So I need to look around and weatherproof some connections. Sweet.
